The introduction of Digital Nomad (Workation) visa
As of 1 January 2024, we have introduced Digital Nomad visa as a pilot project, which allows remote workers from overseas to stay in Korea long-term while enjoying vacations in the country.
Employees of a company based overseas can apply for a Digital Nomad visa, provided that he/she meets the minimum income level and length of service requirements.
02
How to apply & Eligibility
Visit a Korean embassy for application. Switching an existing visa to a Digital Nomad visa can be done by visiting an immigration office covering the area of his/her residence, provided that requirements are met.
Foreign national employees aged 18 or more with at least one year of work experience in the same field, who can work remote and are affiliated with a company based overseas can apply, including accompanying family members.
03
Income and mandatory medical insurance requirements
Foreign nationals with proof of income of at least twice the previous year’s per capita GNI announced by the Bank of Korea
** As per capita GNI as of 2022 announced by the BOK is KRW 42.48m (KRW 3.54m/month), the minimum income requirement for Digital Nomad visa applicants is KRW 84.96m (KRW 7.08m/month) equivalent.
(Kim Office's comment :
As of 5th June 2024, Bank of Korea revealed that South Korea’s GNI per capita for 2023 was 47.24m. Based on this, the income amount required for this workation visa might or might not be changed by the Korea Immigration. Should you know the exact amount of income required, you need to inquiry to the Korea Immigration Office.)
Subscription to medical insurance with coverage of at least KRW 100m is mandatory in case situations requiring medical treatment and repatriation arise during stay in Korea
